A hugely ambitious project, featuring many of the world’s best ambassadors in the creative fields, it’s great to go behind the curtain, meet the people, and see how they continuously push their craft. Happening this weekend, Dublin based Still Films will be showing their many great films at the IFI. Including ‘Seaview’, ‘Pyjama Girls’ and the world premiere of ‘The Rooms’, it’s great to see such strong, unique film making coming out, my hat is well tipped to all involved. There are two great filmmaking competitions at Darklight this year. ‘Free Your Film’ is a commission to make a short film for a budget of 3k and ‘My Environment, My Film’ is a viral competition and the prize is a HD camera.

Both are linked off the main Darklight website.

Pretty tough viewing, the Oscar winning documentary ‘The Cove’ is on More 4 tomorrow (Tuesday) night at 10pm. Make sure you watch it, see for yourself the inhumane ways dolphins are slaughtered by a small group of mindless idiots and hidden from most in Japan and the world. Better still, get involved to help put an end to this senseless cruelty.

One of my favourite artists out there, KAWS, has just opened a retrospective in the States and as part of that, uber cool blog High Snobiety put this together. Looks like a stunner of a show, the Jiminy Cricket is to kill for.

2 years in the making, the PhotoIreland Festival is almost upon us. Starting 1st July and running for 10 days there’s over 30 separate events spread right over spaces all across the city featuring the finest Irish and international talent. Fair play to the organisers of this, they’ve managed to pull together a hugely innovative, interesting and eclectic variety of projects, exhibitions, workshops and screenings. Make sure you make it down to some and support it.

One of my favourite creative/music labels Ed Banger have got together with Etnies to produce The Ed Banger Seven, 7 small films following the Banger crew on a recent trip to the USA. The first one went up yesterday and is looking good, can’t wait to see the rest.

You’d think with the sun scorching all around us that people would kick back, take it handy for a couple of months, and get stuck back in when Mother Nature and Jack Frost conspire against us all once more this Autumn. Not so it seems as there’s plenty of events upcoming that are worth getting out and supporting so forget the football, Big Brother and Pat Kenny on The Front Line and get stuck in at some of these…

‘Up There’ is a new minifilm produced by Mother NYC for Stella Artois detailing the awesome work of Colossal Media, the guys who paint rather than print the massive advertisements on to the side of buildings in NYC. A fascinating insight in a dying out craft, it’s also an interesting way for Mother to promote the beer. Why not kick back with one of said beers and enjoy!
