No doubt if you live in Dublin you will have noticed some rather nice and thought provoking ‘messages’ painted on the walls and buildings of our fair city. This has been a collaborative effort between graffiti artist Maser and singer/songwriter Damien Dempsey. A website www.theyareus.ie has gone live outlining the project and documenting the sites. Go visit now!
NYC’s finest art collective Faile have gone and outdone themselves yet again. As part of Portugal’s Arte 2010 festival they have taken their iconic 2d creations and brought them to live in 3d and then went one step beyond to create a “future temple” to house them all in. Every detail is considered, every single inch of it treated with love and attention, every element is unbelievable. The piece was meant to only be up for a couple of weeks but such is the interest, both locally and people flying in to see it, that it will be extended for a couple of months. Check out more pictures here and here. Also, here’s the making of, the effort just blows me away.
Words can’t describe how amazing I think this is. The latest, and in my opinion greatest, animation so far by Blu is absolutely killer. “Big Bang Big Boom, A Short Unscientific Story about Evolution and His Consequences” is a massive undertaking and realised with a real, beautiful feel. So, grab yourself your nearest and dearest, and kick back for 10 minutes and take it all in.

You’d think with the sun scorching all around us that people would kick back, take it handy for a couple of months, and get stuck back in when Mother Nature and Jack Frost conspire against us all once more this Autumn. Not so it seems as there’s plenty of events upcoming that are worth getting out and supporting so forget the football, Big Brother and Pat Kenny on The Front Line and get stuck in at some of these…
Okay, okay, so this week’s pay day print is actually 3 but they’re all by the same artist so please forgive me. Street artist Escif has his latest show at London’s Pictures On Walls and as part of the event (which looks amazing btw, hundreds of original sketches, video installations and other cool shit) they’ve produced 3 really cool prints. Each is an edition of 100 and available for £85 each, I’m liking the bullfighter most but they all look good. There’s also a bunch of products available in the shop here including a zine and some posters.
Shepard Fairey and his posse have just arrived home after a hugely successful show at Deitch in NYC, their last in the current space. While there he got involved in many different types of events and put up lots of murals across the city but the show he put on was incredible looking. Check more pics here. As part of the trip Interview hooked up an interview between him and long time hero Iggy Pop, subject of one of his portraits for the ‘May Day’ show, which you can read here.
Looks like Banksy took a Stateside trip to be around LA for the US launch of his recent documentary ‘Exit Through The Gift Shop’. While hanging in the city he found time to put up 2 pieces, one of which lasted no time before some opportunists nabbed it, no doubt to sell it on as his work sells for ever higher amounts. Here’s a report on what went down and even some footage, I’m going CSI today folks!
And finally, for anyone who hasn’t seen the film yet, here’s a 5 minute preview to whet your appetite.
Shepard Fairey and his Obey Posse have taken NYC’s Times Square by storm to promote their recent collaboration with Levi’s. The video above is a great insight into the work that goes into producing the more large scale pieces and what a backdrop to show it all off live.
The Small Print is an independent project with creativity at its core. Developed to promote great creativity its many guises we've grown beyond this little blog into live events, art projects, publishing and much more besides. Stay tuned, it just got interesting.
