‘In order to make something beautiful you’ve got to destroy it,’ Gaillard told Mono.kultur during the interview, so they took this paradox to heart by leaving the pages of the issue untrimmed, turning it into an object that needs to be damaged in order to be fully enjoyed. My copy just arrived in the post… and I’m not sure that I can bring myself to start ripping it up just yet. Cyprien Gaillard is a french artist who likes to examine things like fire extinguishers being launched in romantic landscape settings, the demolition of housing estates and fighting youth gangs in St. Petersburg. Seriously worth checking out.

The last Lazarides show in LA this Summer has just opened and it looks pretty good. Titled ‘When Superstars Ruled The World’ Jay Jay Burridge explores what would happen if dinosaurs were still around today. Check out more images here, here and here.
The Joshua Liner’s Summer Show is upon us once more and from the preview pictures it looks like it’s going to be as hot as the streets of NYC are right now. The above graphite picture by Evan Hecox, as usual, blows me away but there’s plenty other good stuff to browse by clicking here.
Dalek has a great project unveiling tomorrow night called ‘Chaos on the edge of reasoning’. A huge 37 foot mural artwork has been created which will be cut up and sold off in various sized chunks over the coming days. I would kill to see this in reality, the colours look like they’d take the eye out of you. More information here.
NYC’s finest art collective Faile have gone and outdone themselves yet again. As part of Portugal’s Arte 2010 festival they have taken their iconic 2d creations and brought them to live in 3d and then went one step beyond to create a “future temple” to house them all in. Every detail is considered, every single inch of it treated with love and attention, every element is unbelievable. The piece was meant to only be up for a couple of weeks but such is the interest, both locally and people flying in to see it, that it will be extended for a couple of months. Check out more pictures here and here. Also, here’s the making of, the effort just blows me away.
Okay, okay, so I mentioned Eine a couple of weeks ago but yesterday British PM David Cameron gave the canvas above to Barack Obama so I thought he was worth a mention again. This could go one of two ways, either it’s the end of street art is proclaimed as if the most powerful man in the world is into it, it can hardly be underground anymore, or… this is the first day that Ben Eine wakes up a couple of notches up in the Top Trumps of street art. I’m betting on the latter and he’ll be pumped up and rocking, and more power to him. I’m a huge fan of his work, have been for years, and his pieces and prints are always of interest, especially the Shutterfont and number prints. So, don’t delay and get your sticky little mitts on one of his prints while they’re still reasonably affordable. Go on, get in there!
Jonathan Yeo has just opened his latest show, ‘Porn in the USA’, with Lazarides’ in their LA space, here’s some pics. OFFSET2010 speaker Steve ‘Espo’ Powers and Chiho Aoshima have teamed up with Absolut to produce 2 unique bottles each for a promotion called The Art Of Sharing. The bottles are seriously cool, as is the animation below. Can’t wait to see Steve rocking Grand Canal Theatre in October, it’s all about to start feeling very real. More pics and info here.
