OFFSET2010 are beyond thrilled to announce that Jim Carroll (The Irish Times, OTR) will be conducting a very special interview with DJ SHADOW in our second room on Friday 1st of October at 5PM before he takes the stage at Tripod that evening for his amazing live show.
The interview will range from his creative ‘cut & paste’ music style, his collaborations with photographers, designers and film makers like Ben Drury, Will Bankhead, Paul Insect, B+, Marc Singer and Kar Wai Wong to his current visual rich live stage show. We really feel privileged as while Shadow’s profile has never been higher, he has increasingly shied away from music press and traditional forms of social networking.
What better way to start this grey Tuesday than with this little ditty, ‘Even Your Friend’ by The Chap. Aurally interesting, the video by the good guys at Non-Format really brings the playfulness to life. You can listen to their whole album here.
One of my favourite creative/music labels Ed Banger have got together with Etnies to produce The Ed Banger Seven, 7 small films following the Banger crew on a recent trip to the USA. The first one went up yesterday and is looking good, can’t wait to see the rest.
Came across this on the Arkitip blog. A fascinating insight into techno music and its creation. Well worth your attention over today’s lunchtime sambo.
…I wish, as my mum would really dig this and it’s her birthday soon. The shoes used in the video are the real sound controllers. Tomoaki Yanagisawa of 4nchor5 la6 was responsible for the hardware part. He added flexible and accelerometer sensors to the shoes. Daito Manabe of Rhizomatiks.
They were both commissioned by Wieden + Kennedy Tokyo for this project.

The punk impresario Malcolm McLaren, who managed bands such as Sex Pistols and New York Dolls, died yesterday (April 8th) after suffering with cancer. McLaren went to art school in London before opening a clothes shop on the King’s Road in Chelsea, London, with his then partner, Vivienne Westwood. McLaren later said he opened the fashion store, originally called Let It Rock, for “the sole purpose of smashing the English culture of deception”. The pair began specialising in rubber and leather fetish gear, infamously renaming the shop “Sex” and defining punk fashion for a new generation.
Westwood has paid tribute to her former partner saying he was “a very charismatic, special and talented person”. John Lydon, who poignantly signed his statement in the name of Johnny Rotten, the nom de guerre that the one-time enfant terrible used during his Sex Pistols days. “For me Malc was always entertaining and I hope you remember that,” he said. “Above all else he was an entertainer and I will miss him and so should you.”
No doubt to those who know more about it than me he was a divisive figure in the Punk movement particularly in his own portrayal of the role he played in its development but for me I will always remember him for the following songs.
Came across this over the weekend, Broken Bells is the post-Dark Night Of The Soul collision of Danger Mouse and Shins star James Mercer. It may only be March but we have a contender for album of the year already methinks. The track above, ‘The High Road’, simply blows me away. Shame the Gorillaz’ new effort doesn’t sound so fresh, go buy it now so you can sing along at a festival appearance this Summer.
I am loving this picture disc from Small Print favourite Dalek. The first of an upcoming series, this edition of only 200 are sure to be gone in jigtime. More info after the jump. (more…)
I saw this film by Fergal Brennan premiered during Darklight a few months ago and was totally blown away. Was waiting for it to go online so I could spread the word…video of the year already?
