When we drew up the inaugural wish list of speakers for OFFSET I knew the first person I wanted to invite was Dave McKean. So it was a great thrill and honour when he said ‘YES’. We have uploaded the video of his presentation which is available for your enjoyment. So…enjoy.

Dave McKean has illustrated many award winning comics and books, including The Big Fat Duck Cookbook (Heston Blumenthal), What’s Welsh For Zen (John Cale), Varjak Paw (SF Said), The Savage (David Almond), Arkham Asylum (Grant Morrison), The Homecoming (Ray Bradbury), Wizard and Glass (Stephen King), The Graveyard Book, Wolves in the Walls, Coraline, Mr. Punch, Signal to Noise and Crazy Hair (all by Neil Gaiman). He also created the incredible covers for the entire award winning Sandman comic series.

2009 AAD

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Another video for last year’s edition of OFFSET is up online for all to enjoy. Scott Burnett from Studio AAD opened up the weekend, a formidable task which he took in his stride, with this inspiring presentation. Can’t believe we’re less than 10 weeks to this year’s event. Actually, probably best not to think about that right now. Enjoy!

Chip Kidd @ OFFSET2009

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Chip Kidd is a writer and graphic designer in New York City. His book jacket designs for Alfred A. Knopf (where he has worked since 1986) have helped spawn a revolution in the art of American book packaging. He spoke in his inimitable way at OFFSET 2009 about the process of book cover design.

Some recent additions to OFFSET2009’s speaker Serge Seidlitz’s blog showcase some of the different treatments he worked up for ITV’s new drama. The work appeared across platforms (quite litterally in the case of these TUBE station advertisements above) and showcase his loverly hand-drawn type. Below are some unused treatments.
