Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Diane Pernet literally has a shaded view of the world through her uniform of veiled headpieces and black sunglasses, which make her one of the most iconic figures in the fashion industry today. She is responsible for championing the fashion film and nurturing it’s many forms, initially in the You Wear It Well competitions and now with the ASVOFF Festival. This September during Paris fashion Week the Centre Pompdieu will host the city’s first fashion film festival. Over the three days there will be screenings, installations, presentations and discussions and I’m sure some of the most incredibly dressed folk you might ever see and black, black and lots more black.

Both are linked off the main Darklight website.

Faile get monu-mental

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

NYC’s finest art collective Faile have gone and outdone themselves yet again. As part of Portugal’s Arte 2010 festival they have taken their iconic 2d creations and brought them to live in 3d and then went one step beyond to create a “future temple” to house them all in. Every detail is considered, every single inch of it treated with love and attention, every element is unbelievable. The piece was meant to only be up for a couple of weeks but such is the interest, both locally and people flying in to see it, that it will be extended for a couple of months. Check out more pictures here and here. Also, here’s the making of, the effort just blows me away.

2 years in the making, the PhotoIreland Festival is almost upon us. Starting 1st July and running for 10 days there’s over 30 separate events spread right over spaces all across the city featuring the finest Irish and international talent. Fair play to the organisers of this, they’ve managed to pull together a hugely innovative, interesting and eclectic variety of projects, exhibitions, workshops and screenings. Make sure you make it down to some and support it.

Out With Ya…

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

You’d think with the sun scorching all around us that people would kick back, take it handy for a couple of months, and get stuck back in when Mother Nature and Jack Frost conspire against us all once more this Autumn. Not so it seems as there’s plenty of events upcoming that are worth getting out and supporting so forget the football, Big Brother and Pat Kenny on The Front Line and get stuck in at some of these…

Now here’s a great idea for a creative event. A Design Film Festival 2010 happens at the end of this month in Singapore and features an eclectic selection of the best documentaries covering various aspects of the creative arts (architecture, graphic design, art, photography, motion graphics and guerilla culture) from the last couple of years.

With the event design by Felix and all the good people at Slint it can only do well. Would be great to see an event of this calibre on this side of the world.
