OFFSET2009 speaker James Jean has just released this cracking gig poster for Imogen Heap and friends and it’s so amazing I can hardly hold back from pulling the trigger and nabbing one. A litho print with plenty of flourescents it’s sure to go fast, as me Mam would say… Magnificent!

Since forming in 2003, Warsaw-based studio Homework has been creating posters for cultural events. Aware of Poland’s renowned legacy in poster design but with no intentions to be part of it, the work they create nods to the simple visual puns of Mieczysław Wasilewski and the playful illustrative style of Witkor Gorka. However, rather than exist in homage to their predecessors, Joanna Górska and Jerzy Skakun have created a distinctive style that has seen them garner prizes at poster biennials across the world as well as gallery exhibitions in Paris and Berlin.
Homework’s exhibition at Kemistry Gallery marks their first in the UK. The gallery proudly present a selection of over fifty of their prints including classic cinema and modern Polish theatre posters, with a selection available for purchase from the gallery and online at www.kemistrygallery.co.uk
And so does Albert Exergian, if his recent self-initiated series of posters is anything to go by. Not only does he distill the essential elements of each TV series perfectly into each poster, he also does it with wit, charm and a great deal of Modernist design chops! These posters are available to purchase from our pals at Blanka.
We were delighted to be able to help out The Poster Cause in their fund raising for the disaster in Haiti by getting some of our friends to donate some wonderful art like the above example by Massimo Vignelli. Others by Jon Burgerman, Nathan Jurevicius, Sergio Mora, Steve Simpson, Nora Krug, Serge Seidlitz, Build, Conor&David and more.
More prints to stretch your post Christmas budget but seriously how can you resist at only 10 dollars! INCREDIBLE new screen print from Steven Weissman, signed and numbered (edition of 60). FEROCIOUS green hand-pulled by Mats!? in San Francisco. I just got me one!
Found this hilarious post on Ephemera Assemblyman: “In the 1980s video cassette technology made it possible for “mobile cinema” operators in Ghana to travel from town to town and village to village creating temporary cinemas. The touring film group would create a theatre by hooking up a TV and VCR onto a portable generator and playing the films for the people to see.
In order to promote these showings, artists were hired to paint large posters of the films (usually on used canvas flour sacks). The artists were given the artistic freedom to paint the posters as they desired - often adding elements that weren’t in the actual films, or without even having seen the movies. When the posters were finished they were rolled up and taken on the road (note the heavy damages). The “mobile cinema” began to decline in the mid-nineties due to greater availability of television and video; as a result the painted film posters were substituted for less interesting/artistic posters produced on photocopied paper.
The artistic freedom that these artists were given allowed for the creation of some very interesting and sometimes bizarre posters that, as screenwriter Walter Hill wrote, were quite often “more interesting than the films.”
Also available at 25 dollars plus shipping are the 5 latest print from Jason Munn at The Small Stakes. Get them while they’re hot, if you’ve a little more money check out his Insound collection which are equally beautiful.

Designer / DJ / Musician Trevor Jackson updates with some very solid new work here.
OFFSET2009 speaker D*Face has just dropped his latest print which is a beauty. Given the hefty price tag I’d say this will take a little longer to shift but I’ve been wrong many times before. Many times.
Speaking of lotsawedge, if you’ve got 4000 dollars burning a hole in your pocket you could do a whole lot worse than buying of these edition of 40 beauties by Mark Ryden.
A man who wouldn’t even blink at dropping that type of waddage is the gay fish himself Kanye West. Known for his outbursts, outrageous fashion and out and out mindblowing confidence his blog is always a must-read for the latest in streetwear, design, culture and hot, hot ladies.
Right, with that done, I’ll leave you for the evening with this fantastic video, directed by the wonderfully talented Matthew & Emelie with animation by DADDY, for Choice Music Award winner Jape… Enjoy!
Actually, just lifted this from Kanye’s blog… Feist counting monsters on Sesame Street… Brilliant.
With a delicate touch Jason Munn and his Small Stakes project continue to rock some of the finest gig posters and art prints out there. Always looking for extra little something this is a confident designer with subtle sensibilities. Allowing the idea to breathe the results are compelling.
