The Pradalphabet is a subjective view of the peculiar world of Prada branding from French design duo M/M. They’ve engineered their own letters of architectural abstraction and simply put them on a t-shirt. Prada is continually involved in and inspired by architectural projects and so the t-shirt is presented as a creative souvenir. M/M is Mathias Augustyniak and Michael Amzalag. Their own incredible world is made up of projects involving people like Björk, Jil Sander and Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin.

2009 AAD

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Another video for last year’s edition of OFFSET is up online for all to enjoy. Scott Burnett from Studio AAD opened up the weekend, a formidable task which he took in his stride, with this inspiring presentation. Can’t believe we’re less than 10 weeks to this year’s event. Actually, probably best not to think about that right now. Enjoy!

OFFSET2009 speakers House Industries have followed up their Alexander Girard letterblocks with a set inspired by Charles and Ray Eames. A little pricey this little puppies are guaranteed to grow old more gracefully than some hard plastic one from Smyths.

Your Heineken, Your City

Monday, June 14th, 2010

For the first time ever, Irish Heineken fans can personalise their very own bottles of beer on www.heineken.ie. To celebrate the launch of ‘Your Heineken’, Heineken is using buildings in Cork, Galway and Dublin as blank canvases to showcase local creative talent.

Your Heineken Your City People from around the country are invited to take inspiration from the great cities of Ireland and express what the city means to them by designing their own, city inspired, Heineken bottle. The winning designer will then be given their very own part of Dublin, Cork or Galway, to recreate their design on a landmark building in one of the three major cities.

The classic green bottle will receive many makeovers as the public express their feelings on the iconic cities through the custom built Facebook app on facebook.com/heineken.  The winning design will be voted for by the public.

What is ‘Your Heineken’?
‘Your Heineken’ let’s beer fans personalise the very bottle that contains their favourite beer.  Using the outline of the iconic green bottle as a template, Heineken enthusiasts can fill their bottle with designs, pictures and messages, creating their very own Heineken bottle, delivered straight to their door.

Log onto facebook.com/Heineken to design your own creation or browse the entries and vote for your favourite.  To order your own personalised ‘Your Heineken’ bottles, log on to www.heineken.ie

Better late than never I suppose, here’s the latest crafted gems from one of the highlights of last year’s OFFSET outing, Anthony Burrill. 2 new prints and a clock make for a good innings from the prolific designer. The story regarding the clock is it’s the result of Anthony hearing Massimo speak about OFFSET also, and seeing the opportunity for him to express himself in other ways, product design included. Buy the print above here, the print below here and the clock here. Happy Monday indeed!

Okay, so print media is in the shit with sales plummeting, advertising getting hit or diverted online, online itself getting better contentwise and much more affecting its ability to make a decent crust for the titles and their contributors. This may not be its salvation but I tell ya, it’s one serious step forward. Wallpaper* magazine is offering every person who buys their upcoming issue the chance to design and customise their own personal cover with assets by the likes of Anthony Burrill, Kam Tang, Hort and more. For £10 (if you’re based in Ireland) you get your issue delivered right to your door to pop alongside all the other periodical design luminaries. An incredible undertaking and hopefully the start of lots more innovations to come.

A quick one for anyone out there looking to get their hands on some nice looking tea towels. I didn’t think this was an issue until recently, when I went scouring high and low for something that didn’t resemble the non-absorbant versions I grew up with. You know the ones, they simply slide the water around the item you’re supposedly drying. Towels in cheap B&Bs are the same, should be called Towel Teflon. Anyhoo, here’s a site for keenly priced tea towels which are nicer than your ordinary, why not have a browse over a brew?
