I’ll never forget the first time I came across WK Interact’s work. I was in NYC, down the Lower East Side, and having turned a corner I saw the full side of a building covered in one of this French man’s masterpieces. Visually arresting with lots of movement and purpose he’s one of the true “Street Artists” whose work isn’t compromised or watered down when he exhibits in galleries such as Espeis (NYC) and Elms Lester (London). Don’t take my word for it, click the link and see for yourself on his recently updated site.
In the first of what will become a regular series we’ve caught up with Mark Blamire who runs Blanka in London. Blanka specialises in producing some of the best printed items out there by some of the world’s leading creatives. We’ve had the pleasure of his company over the years and to say he’s a gentleman is like calling a the space shuttle a small city runabout. Infectiously passionate and determined to detail his wealth of knowledge is there for the sharing if you’re willing to pony up and buy him a pint.
Amazing photographer and all round good guy Rich Gilligan has been really busy of late but not so busy that he hasn’t had time to pop a fresh update on his site. Designed by the good chaps at Conor & David it’s a real snapshot into a strong yet diverse portfolio. I particularly like the urban still life scenes and the atmosphere he captures.
After the success of his Helvetica film Gary Hustwit is back with his latest offering ‘Objectified’ which looks at the design behind many of our everyday items. Including interviews with the likes of Jonathan Ive, Dieter Rams, Marc Newson and many more this is currently premiering around the world so if it comes close make sure to get a ticket. Also, check out the film poster designed my Michael C. Place / Build which is available from the store along with some rare Helvetica goodies including the lovely Experimental Jetset designed boxset.
Matt Hoyle’s portraits have a stark and lets face it creepy über realism to them. His recent portfolio of freakshow and circus performers: Barnumville from which the above Ronald Wilkes and Willardo are from is online now. Go check it out.
Found this link through Arkitip Intel, a fantastic resource of great poster design from people all over the world including Alex Trochut who did the above print for last year’s project by If You Could.
What better way to start the new week than with some killer videos by street artist Blu. Animated by illustrating each element each time in its environment these are mindmeltingly good feats of creativity. Above is one of his latest, and most ambitious, entitled ‘MUTO’ while after the jump there’s some of his earlier work. (more…)
Dublin’s finest Asbestos has just given us a sneak peek at his latest work which has taken a fresh direction and we feel it’s too good not to share. Great mix of photography transferred on to found materials with stencilled colour applied after along with other effects and finishes. Looking forward to seeing this direction take shape across future pieces, a nice move on.
Been following the work of Josh Keyes for while. Love the juxtaposition of animals, urban clutter and much more in his compositions. A rising star his prints are well worth some of your hard earned cash. His latest solo show ‘Sprout’ promises him even higher when it opens in May here.
The Small Print is an independent project with creativity at its core. Developed to promote great creativity its many guises we've grown beyond this little blog into live events, art projects, publishing and much more besides. Stay tuned, it just got interesting.
