After 6 months painting in Dublin last year Espo (aka Stephen Powers) has a new project on the go in the birthplace of graffiti.  Love Letter is a project by Stephen Powers with the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program. He’s been painting some amazing work over the last few months all based on love and in his distinct style that’s influenced on American hand painted signage. espo_l-igot-the-blame_web

Small EVOL city

Monday, August 31st, 2009

evol_dresden_2_1000Brilliant new stencil work from EVOL, where he’s converted concrete blocks into a miniature city. I’ll let the man himself describe it: “painted in a 10*8m hole in the ground on the abandoned slaughterhouse area in dresden, probably the former foundation of a huge boiler plant to derive soap from rendered beef fat or other utilization of carcass. however, even 15 years after closing down, it still smells nauseous. The main slaughterhouse complex was built 1906 by hans erlwein, kurt vonnegut’s novel “slaughterhouse five” also takes place there. caspar david friedrich painted that area called ostragehege in 1832, and my favourite footnote is that his father was a soap-boiler … ” evol_dresden_3_1000

evolve-devolve-500x333

For fans of Shepard Fairey this Tuesday (the 1st day of September, eek!) sees him release one of his most iconic recent prints again, this time as an open edition. Available here, it’s an offset edition of the long-sold-out eBay fodder screenprinted version. While we’re talking iconic prints, Shepard’s friend Ernesto Yerena has just released ‘El Che’, a screenprint tribute to the Cuban revolutionary realised in stunning detail, in 2 colour versions for all to buy and enjoy.

TypArchive is a collection of hand painted typography compiled by RD Granados. He’s compiled a great collection of quirky and beautiful type with contributions from other alphabet addicts from around the world.

He’s also got a small but quality collection of his own fonts over at StereoTypeHaus, I’m a big fan of  his Stylus family, which is FADER magazine’s typeface of choice.

Full of eastern promise

Strangely captivating the above is the winning performance from Ukraine’s version of Britain Got Talent. The sheer  talent of this woman is unbelievable, her ability to understand the sand and create immediate images is astonishing. Beats Susan Boyle for sure.
